Happy 4th of July!
What memories I have of warm sunny 4th of July celebrations, BBQ's sunshine, swimming, long weekends, and fireworks. I have celebrated on a donkey with US troops in Afghanistan, I celebrated last year by just finding out we were going to have a baby...but never, I repeat never have I ever celebrated the 4th of July IN THE SNOW! We had some friends over last night for a mid winter 4th of July BBQ. It was great, we dressed up in red white and blue, had an American quiz and even planned to light off some fireworks. When I say fireworks however, I don't want to confuse you with those brilliant displays of wonder you oohh and ahhh about down at the park, Instead we had a fist full of crackers built by a 15 year old who was generous enough to share from his stash he had saved to blow things up with his mates. It was a little scary lighting them off in the road (did I mention in the snow?) and ducking for cover, but so much fun. It hasn't snowed in Upper Hutt for years, so fitting really that it would begin on the day we celebrate a part of summer where I come from. God Bless America. Hope you guys had a great weekend and enjoyed the sunshine.
Laila in her little America outfit. Thanks Karen! I think it's supposed to be a dress, but in NZ in July you need to be dressed in thermals!
Run for cover! Everyone ducks out of the way to escape the wayward fireworks and smoke.
Brrrrrrr!

These fireworks sound more like the type you get in Pakistan - dodgy to say the least! Please, all you Americans, don't think that this is the only kind of fireworks we can get in NZ! It's just that for some weird reason we celebrate in Nov. the anniversary of some guy who tried to blow up parliment in the UK about 100 years ago- and we can't buy fireworks at any other time of the year.
Nice shorts. :)
Love the American flag boxers and matching pants. Sounds like a blast! he he
