JELLO FUN

Each week friends from our pre-natal class get together for some coffee at one another's houses, it's a great time to talk, share baby stories, cry, laugh, and allow our kids to play together. The kids are all starting to outgrow our living rooms so we decided this week to take them outside and do some messy play. I cried when I first heard of messy play, it seemed like such a 'mom' thing to do and I was afraid I wouldn't know how to 'play' with my child. I worried that she would grow up with a mom who didn't know how to be a fun. What a great idea messy play is! Kids need to have a chance to get dirty and explore, and what better way to do that than with a big plate of Jello. It took a few seconds for the kids to get a finger into it, then hands, then feet, then watch out... they were soon splashing and squealing away. Most of the kids who could crawl eventually found better things to do, but not our Laila. Her and her friend Oscar continued to splash around in what was now a liquid sticky mess. Laila wasn't content to simply splash, she had to get her face in it and slurp the jello off of the tarp, and when the tarp wasn't enough, she needed the whole plate. The photos don't capture it well, but hands, faces and feet were dyed a fantastic dark red even after a bath. It looks like Jello will have to go into the Christmas stocking this year and messy play is now on the top of my list of favorite things to do with my child, we are both learning how to play.

here they come, ohhh, that feels nice

We love how it splashes all over our bodies

forget the hands, it tastes great, especially slurped off the tarp.

move over guys, I love this stuff
Yeah baby, I LOVE JELLO!

Oh man, that was great! I needed a good laugh:) I am so looking forward to summer again so we can have some "messy play". And this totally brings back memories of high school pep assemblies when I had to jello wrestle the juniors, yikes!
